A Handkerchief Is Not Used to Wipe Your Nose, A Pillow Is Not Used to Sleep On is a series of 5 pillowcases. They constitute diaristic aspects of impulsive making yet they are a more structured and calm form. They are vulnerable pieces which imply intimacy. The act of weaving a vulnerable thought and using embroidery on a handkerchief or nap- kin sized linen sheet and weaving these handkerchiefs into pillowcases evoke a sense of shared humanness. Whilst pillowcases are often changed and dressed onto pillows and are used for a time of sleep and rest, they are so close to our most vulnerable states that their fabric becomes almost saturated with our states and feelings. The handkerchiefs used to softly wipe away at our faces or hands do the same yet during our more conscious times. We stain handkerchiefs and napkins in our wake, and stain pillowcases in our sleep.
